One hundred million Americans over the age of 16 are already fully vaccinated against COVID-19, reported the pandemic response team of the Government of President Joe Biden.
Jeff Zients, White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator, said at a press conference, “This puts one hundred million Americans feeling relieved and at peace of mind, knowing that after a long and hard year they are protected from the virus”.
In total, more than 230 million doses of some of the available vaccines have been administered so far in the country: those from Moderna and Pfizer, which require two injections, and the single-dose one from Johnson & Johnson, according to data from the Centers. Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In the past week, the average daily doses administered was 2.6 million, which is expected to fulfill Biden’s promise of having enough vaccines available for all Americans by the end of May.
Fully vaccinated people can thus comply with the new guidelines set by the CDC this week, Zients stressed, and enjoy time in the park with their family, dining and socializing with friends outside without the need to wear a mask.
Although the number of daily infections has decreased in recent weeks, the United States remains the country most affected in the world by the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 575,000 deaths and 32 million confirmed cases.
